Gansu Province, located in the ecologically fragile northwest China, is a core battlefield of the Three-North Shelterbelt Project. Over more than 40 years, generations of Longyuan people have turned “sandstorm zones” into “scenic belts” with the perseverance of “humans advancing and deserts retreating”, creating an ecological miracle of the Yellow River flowing safely. To showcase Gansu’s ecological achievements, technological explorations and humanistic spirit in the Three-North Project, the special series “Green-Covered Longyuan · Miracle of the Three-North” is launched. With real cases, character stories and ecological data, it deciphers Gansu’s ecological miracle and tells good stories of Gansu’s forestry and grassland in ecological civilization construction in a Gen Z-friendly way.
On July 4, 2025, the second episode “Desert Version of ‘Farming Challenge'” was aired, telling the story of a group of young people from all over China participating in afforestation of the Three-North Project in Minqin, Gansu. From being flustered at first to gradually growing into “tree-planting experts”, the seemingly relaxed and healing daily life hides the hardships and achievements of the Three-North Project. “Green-Covered Longyuan” embodies the struggle and persistence of generations of Gansu people, as well as the enthusiasm and dedication of people from all over the country who participate in desert control and tree planting.
