Chinese Embassy in Canada Hosts 2026 Chinese New Year Reception

“Warm Spring · Celebrating the Chinese New Year Together”

Ottawa, February 10, 2026 —On February 10, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada hosted a grand reception in Ottawa to celebrate the 2026 Chinese New Year, under the theme “Warm Spring · Celebrating the Chinese New Year Together.” The event brought together over 200 guests, including senior officials from Global Affairs Canada, representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office, Senators, Members of Parliament, as well as representatives of the Chinese Canadian community, Chinese enterprises, and Chinese students in Canada.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rob Morrison, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister Éric Beaulieu, Senator Clément Gignac, Member of Parliament Marc Léger, and former Senator Vivienne Poy were among the distinguished attendees.

In his address, Ambassador Wang Di noted that during Prime Minister Carney’s recent visit to China, the leaders of both countries reached an important consensus on establishing a new China–Canada strategic partnership, marking the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations. Ambassador Wang emphasized that China is ready to work with Canada to accelerate the implementation of this consensus, deepen exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, and deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Deputy Minister Morrison, Parliamentary Secretary Beaulieu, Senator Gignac, MP Léger, and former Senator Poy delivered remarks highlighting the positive development of China–Canada relations. They reaffirmed Canada’s willingness to deepen the strategic partnership, expand cooperation, and strengthen mutual understanding and trust.

The reception featured a warm and festive atmosphere, enriched with traditional cultural elements associated with the Chinese New Year. Guests praised the event and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate the occasion together while further promoting friendship and cooperation between China and Canada.
