Yuncheng, Shanxi — Sept. 23, 2025 — The 36th Guan Gong Cultural Tourism Festival opened in Yuncheng, the birthplace of the legendary general Guan Yu. Representatives of Guan Gong temples, descendants of the Guan family, and worshippers from across the Taiwan Strait as well as Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam gathered in the city, known as the “hometown of Guan Gong,” to take part in a grand ceremony honoring him.
Guan Yu, a famed general of the late Eastern Han dynasty, is celebrated in Chinese history as a symbol of loyalty and righteousness. Yuncheng, recognized as the cradle of Guan Gong culture, has nurtured traditions that have endured for more than 1,800 years. Today, this cultural legacy is regarded as a key expression of traditional Chinese heritage and serves as a spiritual bond strengthening emotional, cultural, and national identity among Chinese communities worldwide.
