Jincheng, China – June 25, 2025 — The 2025 edition of “Stories of Jincheng, Heard Around the World” officially launched this week in Jincheng, Shanxi Province. Over 30 editors, journalists, and media executives from Chinese-language media outlets across Canada, the UK, Italy, Germany, and other countries have gathered for a three-day cultural and media tour of the city.
Located in southeastern Shanxi near the border with Henan Province, Jincheng has long held strategic significance in Chinese history. Known as the “eastern shield of the Yellow River” and the “gateway to the Central Plains,” the city today is recognized as a National Civilized City, an Excellent Tourism City, and an International Garden City. It was also named a “World Model Wellness City” by the United Nations Institute on Ageing. Nicknamed the “City of the Phoenix” and the “Pearl of the Taihang Mountains,” Jincheng combines natural beauty, cultural depth, and modern vitality.
“Jincheng is not only a place of rich history and culture — it is a city full of energy and transformation,” said Li Jinchu, Executive Deputy Director of the Jincheng Publicity Department, during the opening ceremony. “This event comes at a meaningful time, as we look to showcase the city’s growth, resilience, and renewed global outlook. We warmly welcome our media guests to capture Jincheng’s spirit through compelling storytelling and visuals.”
Gao Xiaoqi, Director of the Shanxi Bureau of China News, emphasized the media’s role in fostering international understanding. “With every visit to Jincheng, we witness a city that is changing and thriving. Through thoughtful reporting and creative formats, we hope to share its charm, openness, and future potential with audiences around the world.”
As cultural connectors, overseas Chinese media play a vital role in presenting modern China to the world. “We want to portray Jincheng not just as it is, but as it aspires to be — green, dynamic, and full of promise,” said Ma Lin, a journalist from Nouvelles d’Europe. “It’s about telling an honest, multidimensional story that resonates with global readers.”
During the ceremony, six overseas media outlets were awarded the title of “Jincheng Overseas Promotion Ambassador.” The event was officially launched with a flag presentation by Shi Yunfeng, a senior official in charge of united front affairs for the city.
The “Stories of Jincheng, Heard Around the World” tour is co-hosted by the Jincheng Publicity Department and the Shanxi Branch of China News Service (International Communication Group), with support from the Jincheng Municipal News Centre and the Taihang International Communication Centre
