‘Witnessing China Together, Connecting the World’ Global Chinese Media Alliance Tour Launches in Tibet

Lhasa, Tibet – July 21, 2025 – The “Witnessing China Together, Connecting the World” Global Chinese Media Alliance China Tour officially launched today in Lhasa, co-hosted by the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) and the Publicity Department of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region Committee.

The event gathered representatives from 27 overseas Chinese-language media outlets across 18 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria and the Netherlands. The delegation will mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region with a week-long journey to explore, understand and share Tibet’s development and culture through writing and photography.

The opening ceremony was attended by Jiang Haizhou, Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region; Zhang Xianqun, Deputy Minister and Chair of the Tibet Journalists Association; Tannya, Deputy Minister and Director of the Regional Information Office; Tian Yuhong, Executive Secretary of the ACJA; and Shen Yibing, Director of the ACJA Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs. All overseas media representatives were present to witness the event.

Zhang Xianqun, in his address, noted that over the past 60 years Tibet has undergone a dramatic transformation “from isolation and poverty to openness and prosperity, achieving a leap that spans centuries in just a few decades.” He encouraged media delegates to use their writing and cameras to capture and share the real stories of modern Tibet — its harmony, development and hope.

Tian Yuhong emphasized the role of overseas Chinese-language media as “a vital bridge between China and the world.” She said this Tibet visit serves as a cross-cultural exchange to “break stereotypes, reveal the truth and foster understanding,” helping the international community see Tibet’s achievements and cultural depth in a more accurate and comprehensive way.

Speaking on behalf of the overseas media, Xuan Xuan, General Manager of the Central and Eastern European Edition of European Times, pointed out that Western narratives on Tibet are often biased. “We are here to see Tibet with our own eyes and tell its story in our own words,” she said. “Only truth can foster understanding, and only dialogue can lead to consensus.” She also recalled the positive response to a 2023 Tibetan cultural delegation’s visit to Europe, calling cultural exchange “the most effective way to overcome prejudice and deepen mutual understanding.”

With the symbolic press of a launch button, the one-week tour officially began. The ceremony concluded with a group photo of all delegates and officials, underscoring the collaborative spirit of Chinese and international media in amplifying Tibet’s voice and sharing positive narratives.

In the coming days, the delegation will visit Lhasa, Nyingchi and surrounding areas, conducting interviews on economic development, ecological protection, cultural preservation and improved livelihoods. Delegates expressed their commitment to maintaining professional standards and an international perspective, aiming to present a dynamic, authentic and multi-dimensional image of contemporary Tibet.

The Tibet segment of “Witnessing China Together, Connecting the World” Global Chinese Media Alliance China Tour is not only a collective reporting initiative but also a major effort in cultural outreach. Organizers hope it will inject fresh momentum into global storytelling about China and Tibet.
